Chassis:
Ready for the start of the 1979 season, this is one of two Ensign N179s built. It entered for three drivers during the year with Derek Daly making three appearances, Patrick Gaillard and Marc Surer three. The Irishman only managed to qualify for the United States Grand Prix West, which he crashed out of. Gaillard was allowed to start two races, with a 13th place finish at the British Grand Prix as the best result. In the car's final three appearances, Surer only managed to make it to the grid at Watkins Glen for the second United States Grand Prix of the year. The Swiss racer made it to lap 32 but then his engine expired. In more recent years, the car was meticulously restored for historic racing by Simon Hadfield Motorsport. Since the second half of the 2010s, it has been actively raced by its current, British owner in historic races.
