Chassis:
The last GT40 chassis built, GT40P/1085 was sold new to Gil Jackson in the United States through Sir Malcolm Gutherie as a rolling chassis. It served as a spare for Jackson's ex-Alan Mann GT40P/1009 and was ultimately not built into a complete car in period. It sat in a crate for nearly four decades, together with a set of parts to complete the car. Although historians like Ronnie Spain were well aware of the car's location, it took until 2007 for the last GT40 to be retrieved. It was acquired by a British enthusiast, who commissioned Racing Fabrications to finally have the last GT40 completed. Like the other GT40s sold by John Wyer Automotive in 1968 and 1969, it was completed to JWA Gulf specification with wider wheels, ventilated discs and four-pot brake calipers. Almost exactly 40 years after it was originally sold, chassis GT40P/1085 was finally completed. It has since been regularly raced on the British Isles and also competed in the Tour Auto retrospective. In 2021, it was consigned to the June edition of the online-only Gooding & Company Geared Online auction. Bidding exceeded its high estimate and it went on to sell for just over £2.5 million.
