Chassis:
Awaiting the completion of the first Brabham Grand Prix car, Jack Brabham campaigned this Lotus 24 in five Grands Prix during the first half of the the 1962 Formula 1 World Championship. He qualified fourth on two occasions but in the five outings with chassis 947 could do no better than fifth in the British and sixth in the Belgian Grands Prix. It was subsequently sold to Cedric van der Vyver and raced extensively in South Africa. Although damaged in a garage fire in 1963, it was rebuilt and remained in full running order until a con-rod punched through the block in 1974. It was eventually sold to the United States where it was rebuilt but rarely raced. Sold back to Europe, it has been raced by a succession of owners in historic events. Its most recent custodian had Hall & Hall carefully restore the car and re-paint in its Brabham Racing Organisation colours.
