Chassis:
Built to 200 Si specification, this example was completed in June of 1957. Through Carroll Shelby, it was sold new to Tennessee resident Gaylord Jackson. He entered the car for rising star Joe Sheppard in a variety of events in Florida. At the first outings, Sheppard immediately finished second and third with chassis 2423. In February of 1958, Sheppard won at New Smyrna Beach against formidable opposition, which included 'Lucky' Casner in a 3.5-litre Ferrari and Ed Rahal in a Chevrolet-engined Arnolt. During the following month, Sheppard damaged the engine, which ended its contemporary racing career. It then sat in the back of the Sheppard Motors garage for over a decade. It finally changed hands in the early 1970s and a few years later, it was repaired and returned to full running order for historic racing by a subsequent owner. Among the subsequent owners were Brian Brunkhorst and Chuck Wegner, who both campaigned the car in the Ferrari Historic Challenge. Late in 2008, a crack was found in the engine block. A fresh 2.5-litre engine was fitted while the original unit was retained as was the riveted fuel tank. Sold again in 2014, it has been maintained in full running order. In the summer of 2021, it was consigned to the Gooding & Co. Pebble Beach Auctions.
