Chassis:
One of just four examples sold to a British customer, this 100S was fitted by the factory with a David Brown gearbox. Its first owner was club racer David Shale. Shortly after taking delivery, he had the car painted British Racing Green from the standard white and blue colours it had been finished in by the factory. Shale then raced the car at Goodwood where he finished second. He would race the car in club events around the country for two seasons, often driving the car to the circuits over the road. It was raced well into 1962 by three successive owners, which included a young Tony Lanfranchi. In 1962, chassis AHS 3509 was acquired by Arthur Carter and it would remain in his famous collection until 2004. Its next custodian had the rare 100S comprehensively restored over an 18-month period. Having had just one additional owner since, it was consigned to headline the 2021 Bonhams Bond Street sale.
