Chassis:
The third of seven 640 F1s built, this chassis was allocated to Nigel Mansell for the majority of the 1989 Formula 1 World Championship. He debuted the car with the famous victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Mansell then suffered from the 640 F1's reliability woes for most of the year but ended a poor run with a second place finish in the British Grand Prix and a third in the German Grand Prix. A fortnight later, he added another victory to chassis 109's tally by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix. In his final outing with 109, Mansell retired from the Australian Grand Prix. In 1990, Ferrari gifted this, the most successful of all 640 F1s to 'Il Leone'. Mansell would retain the car for three decades until he eventually consigned it to the 2022 RM Sotheby's Monaco sale along with several other cars from his collection.
