Chassis:
Built during the second half of 1987, this XJR-9 was first raced at the start of the 1988 season, at the Talledega IMSA round. It was classified 26th, while its sister car won at the XJR-9's debut. Chassis 388 would continue to be raced in IMSA events in 1988 and 1989, scoring several podium finishes but no victories. Among the podium finishes, a second place at the 1989 Daytona 24 Hours was the best result. Updated to the latest, XJR-12 specifications, it was then entered in the 1990 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona. Not quite as fast as the turbocharged rivals, the XJR-9 proved the most reliable and was driven to the outright victory with Davy Jones, Jan Lammers and Andy Wallace behind the wheel. A few weeks later, it scored another podium, finishing third overall in the Sebring 12 Hours. After three seasons of racing, chassis 388 was retired to the TWR Museum. It remained there until the museum was disbanded in 2003. In 2006, it was comprehensively restored to its Daytona winning livery. Since then it has changed hands several times but has not returned to the racing track yet.
