Chassis:
This T26 Grand Sport has by far the longest competition history of all the Grand Sports. It was bought new from the factory by flamboyant racer and wealthy industrial Andre Chambas. He delivered the chassis to little known coachbuilder Contamin, who crafted a very attractive and lightweight coupe body. Chambas raced the car at Le Mans for five years running together with Talbot Lago racing legend Andre Morel. In 1949 and 1950 they used the Contamin coupe bodied with a 13th as the best result. For 1951 Chambas had the car rebodied with an open barchetta, which would have no doubt made the race a little more comfortable. In 1952 Chambas and Morel scored their best result of ninth with a supercharged version of the straight six engine. The final appearance of the again Naturally Aspirated T26 lasted just two hours and ten minutes. After the car was finally retired from racing Chambas replaced the purposeful barchetta body with the coupe body that was first fitted to the car. He eventually sold the car in 1957. The unique T26 GS has survived in remarkable original condition and is today part of an impressive, Switzerland based collection.
