Chassis:
A works car, this 512 S was entered in the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours for Mario Andretti and Arturo Merzario, who finished third overall. A few weeks later, it was fielded at the Sebring 12 Hours for Ignazio Giunti, Nino Vaccarella, who were joined during the race by Mario Andretti. Starting seventh, the trio scored an outright victory in what was a very strong field. Once back in Europe, chassis 1026 finished fourth at Monza and Spa. For Le Mans, it was fielded for youngsters Derek Bell and Ronnie Peterson. Sadly a dropped valve ended their charge early.
After its works duties, it was sold to Ecurie Francorchamps. Never raced by the Belgian team, it then passed to Solar Productions, who used it for the movie 'Le Mans'. During the filming, Bell crashed the car heavily and it was not raced again. The remains were bought from a French wrecking yard by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason in 1978. He had the car meticulously rebuilt and it has since appeared at a variety of events.
