Chassis:
Completed early in 1965 as a 275 P2 works racer, chassis 0828 debuted in the hands of John Surtees at the Le Mans test day. The following month Nino Vaccarella and Lorenzo Bandini used this P2 to win the Targa Florio and Surtees and Ludovico Scarfiotti then scored a victory in the Nürburgring 1000 km. Gearbox issues ended the charge of Surtees and Scarfiotti after 225 laps at Le Mans. It was rebuilt, fitted with a 4.4-litre engine and sold as a 365 P2 to Ecurie Francorchamps. Painted Belgian racing yellow, it was then campaigned extensively by Lucien Bianchi and Jean Blaton or ‘Beurlys’ with some success.
Following its contemporary racing career, it was owned by Jean-Claude Bajol and then passed to Albert Uderzo of Asterix comic book fame. He had a fiery accident at Imola in 1981 and it was subsequently rebuilt for new owner Fabrizio Violati to 330 P3/4 guise by Sport Auto Modena, using the original chassis, engine and gearbox. From the late 1980s, Violati regularly raced the car and it was also displayed in his Maranello Rosso museum. Following his passing in 2010, the collection was eventually disbanded and chassis 0828 was acquired by a British enthusiast.
Chassis 0828 was then meticulously rebuilt by Ferrari Classiche to the 365 P2 specification as used during the 1966 and accordingly re-painted in its Ecurie Francorchamps livery. Once the work was completed, it was fully Ferrari Classiche certified. In 2022, it was demonstrated by Joe Macari at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival Meeting.
