Chassis:
A new car built ahead of the 2002 season, chassis 603 was entered at Le Mans that year by Audi Sport Team Joest for Michael Krumm, Marco Werner and Philipp Peter. Starting third, they would cross the line in third as well. At the end of 2002, the works team suspended the activities and this chassis was entrusted to Audi Sport UK. It was raced at Sebring where it finished fourth and then at Le Mans where it unfortunately ran out of fuel. For the 2004 season, Audi Sport UK partnered with Team Veloqx to run a pair of R8s. Driven by Pierre Kaffer, Allan McNish and Frank Biela, this R8 scored a debut win for the team in the Sebring 12 Hours. It then finished second at Monza and a delayed fifth at Le Mans after starting second. During the second half of the season, Kaffer and McNish also scored in the Nürburgring and Silverstone 1000 km races. The following season, it was entered by Audi Playstation Team Oreca, making its fourth Le Mans start. The all-French driver line-up finished fourth overall. Allan McNish and Stéphane Ortelli then grabbed another win at the Silverstone 1000 km. After four seasons and four major wins, chassis 603 was retired. Now in French ownership, it has been restored to its 2002 Le Mans works livery and is meticulously prepared for historic racing by Equipe Europe.
