Chassis:
The tenth Audi Quattro S1 built, this example was entered in the RAC Rally for Hannu Mikkola and Arnie Hertz. After a slow start they moved into the lead with three stage wins but were eventually forced to retire with engine issues. During the 1986, it was used only as a recce car for the Rallye de Portugal. It was then sold to noted collector Michael Gabel. He had some modifications made to make it a little more user friendly and actually drove it on the road. Between 1998 and 2020, it changed hands several times and was fully restored. One of just four examples in private hands, it was consigned with the rest of 'The Gran Turismo Collection' to the 2022 RM Sotheby's London sale.
