Chassis:
Although completed at the end of 1929, this Type 43 Grand Sport was not immediately sold. It was initially displayed in the Paris showroom and then dispatched to the Zurich distributor B.U.C.A.R. but it did not sell to a private owner until 1934. This was Dutchman Johannes-Willem Rens, who was a racing driver and pilot. He asked the Amsterdam based Bugatti agent H. van Ramshorst to convert the car into a pure two-seater, quite possibly for tax reasons. In 1939, the Type 43 was sold and safely tucked away during the War in Amsterdam. It was subsequently owned by noted Dutch collectors Guillaume Prick and Pim Hasher before it joined the stable of compatriot Bart Rosman in 2008. Cherished but used throughout its life, it was Christened ‘Prima Donna’ by Prick in 1951. After Rosman passed away in 2021, it was consigned by his estate to the 2023 Artcurial Retromobile sale.
