Chassis:
Acquired new by London nightclub owner and car-dealer Ron Brightman, this Costin-bodied Lister was originally fitted with a Chevrolet V8 engine. Brightman raced the car, painted red with a black stripe, in events at British tracks like Goodwood and Silverstone during the 1959. Not used afterwards, it was eventually acquired by David Becket, who campaigned the car in club events between 1963 and 1970. During this period, the Chevrolet engine was replaced by a Jaguar XK unit. Once its period racing career was finally over, it seamlessly moved into historic racing with Chris Drake notably fielding the car in the 50th anniversary celebration race at Le Mans, in 1973. This was to be its final outing before it was acquired by American Jaguar enthusiast Thomas Hendricks. He showed the car at some events but never raced it again during the next 50 years. In ‘as discovered’ condition, it was consigned to the 2023 Bonhams Amelia Island sale along with the rest of Hendricks’ remarkable Jaguar Collection.
