Chassis:
Built to Individual Custom order for Philadelphia otolaryngologist Dr. William F. Whelan, this CG Imperial was fitted with a striking Roadster body by LeBaron. Whelan cherished his car and made many subtle changes to the car, which included chroming the front axle, lowering the suspension, installing a custom radiator ornament and fitting a V-shaped radiator. Among the later improvements carried out on Whelan’s behalf were the addition of Airflow taillights and the installation of a powerful Series CW ‘eight’, raising the power to 150 bhp. Having owned the truly custom Chrysler for two decades, Dr. Whelan finally sold the CG Imperial in 1952 to Thomas Dickinson. In 1965, it passed to his brother Richard K. Dickenson, who would also be a longterm owner. Then, between 1981 and 2001, it was cherished by Jim Kaufman before it was sold on to eclectic collector Mark Smith. Remarkably well preserved, it was the crown jewel in the stable of the late Mark Smith. In 2023, it will be offered with the rest of the collection in a dedicated Gooding & Co. auction at no reserve.
