Chassis:
Commissioned by Greek shipping magnate and important Bentley client, André Embericos, this 3&3189;-Litre was clothed with a rakish drophead coupe by Antem of Paris. Believed to be one of just two Bentleys bodied by Antem, it was also equipped with a high-compression cylinder head and metric instruments. The car remained with Embericos in Paris until he sold it back to Bentley. It then had several long-term owners before it was acquired by Eddie Hall. A well known racing driver, Hall remains the only one to complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans on his own, piloting a Bentley during the 1950 edition. He raced this Bentley as late as 1978, when he was already 80 years old. During the mid-1980s, it was sold to the United States where it was eventually acquired by the late Mark Smith in 2008. Although re-painted blue before it moved across the Atlantic, the one-off Antem Drophead Coupe is beautifully preserved. Following Smith’s passing, Gooding will hold an auction of the complete collection of this eclectic collector in April of 2023.
