Chassis:
When demand for the GT40 had waned, there were three spare chassis left at J.W. Automotive (JWA), who had been responsible for the assembly of the last GT40s.. Numbered GT40P/1087 through to 1089, they were left untouched until one of JWA’s founders, John Willment, commissioned Brian Wingfield to turn the spare chassis into complete cars in 1994. During the process, numerous panels and other original components had to be replaced due to corrosion damage. Wingfield was able to use many components that had been stored by Willment since 1969. Chassis GT40P/1088 was built for Willment’s daughter Janet to the ultimate ‘Gulf’ specifications. Janet Willment would continue to own the car through to 2006. It has since changed hands several times and eventually made its historic racing debut. Ahead of the 2022 season, it was acquired by a Swiss historic racer.
