Chassis:
The third of 17 500 TRs built, this example was sold new to Prince Gaetano Starrabba di Giardinelli. He raced the car extensively during the 1957 season with a pair of second place finishes as the best results. Ahead of the 1957 season, it was returned to the factory to be updated to the latest Apendix C regulations that required a full-width windscreen to be fitted. Chassis 0610MDTR was then sold to Swedish Ferrari distributor Tore Bjurström, who loaned and leased the car to a variety of local racers, who raced the car with some success during the next two years. In May of 1958, it was damaged and a significant portion of bodywork had to be replaced. Instead of sending the Ferrari back to Italy, the work was completed locally with the help of factory mechanic Aldo Bertrani. Using a newer 500 TRC as a pattern, 0610MDTR received a unique interim appearance. In this guise, the car was raced by new owner Holger Norrman into the 1959 season before being retired. The car remained in Sweden until 1970 before being sold to France. It was regularly used in historic events by its second French owner. In 1994, it entered longterm Italian ownership and continued to be raced. Chassis 0610MDTR returned to Sweden in 2011 where it joined the magnificent Aurora Collection. Together with the rest of the stable, it was consigned to the 2023 RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale and offered without a reserve.
