Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1972 season, this 312 PB debuted at the Buenos Aires 1000 km race in the hands of Ronnie Peterson and Tim Schenken. The talented pairing scored a debut victory and then finished second at Sebring and third at Monza before securing another win at the Nürburgring. Not race again, it was eventually sold to American collector Harley Cluxton in 1975 for the princely sum of $40,500. Later in the year, Cluxton raced the car at the Monterey Historics. Among the subsequent owners were noted collectors and historic racers Robson Walton, Uwe Meissner and Lord Irvine Laidlaw, who all campaigned or demonstrated chassis 0886. In the hands of a French enthusiast since 2010, it was consigned to headline the 2023 RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba sale.
