Chassis:
Through British agent Maranello Concessionaires, this 250 LM was sold new to George Drummond. An avid racer, Drummond debuted the car at Mallory Park in October of 1964. He campaigned the car extensively successfully through to the start of the 1968 season, usually with himself or Rollo Fielding driving. In 1966, he also raced the car at the Daytona 24 Hours, sharing with Mike Hailwood and Innes Ireland. In 1968, it was acquired by Paul Vestey. He entered the car at Le Mans, using the engine and gearbox from chassis 6167, which he had crashed at the Targa Florio earlier in the year. Sharing with Roy Pike, Vestey failed to reach the finish.
Following its contemporary racing career, chassis 6053 with engine 6167 was sold to the United States. The car changed hands several times before it re-appeared during the 1980s. It was raced at several historic events by Californian collector Anthony Podell. In 1990, it was sold to Japan and then entered a long term ownership with Shiroh Kosaka in 1994. He would own the car through to 2018, when it returned to American ownership. It was then comprehensively restored and Ferrari Classiche certified. Still in its Le Mans configuration with engine and gearbox 6167, it was subsequently shown at the 2022 Pebble Beach Concours. In 2024, it was shown at the Cavallino Classic where it won best in show. This earned it a nomination for the Peninsula Classics Best of the Best Award 2024, which it duly won in February of 2025.
