Chassis:
Through Porsche Car Import, this 718 RS 60 was acquired new by gentleman racer William Wuesthoff. It was finished in silver and Wuesthoff added the blue accents on the body upon taking delivery in June of 1960. He extensively raced the car in the Mid-West with considerable success. He won his class during the Wisconsin Grand Prix and later placed second at Watkins Glen just behind Roger Penske in a sister car. He continued to campaign the car well into the 1963 season. The most notable result came in 1962 when Wuesthoff finished third overall at the Sebring 12 Hours, sharing with Bruce Jennings. The pairing not only won their class but also the Index of Performance. In seventeen outings, Wuesthoff drove 718-060 to no fewer than twelve class wins.
Well acquainted with the car already, Bruce Jennings became the next custodian of the RS 60. He fitted disc brakes but ultimately did not seem to have actually raced the car after buying it from Wuesthoff. After a brief spell in New York, the successful Porsche sports racer entered the longterm ownership of Dr. William Jackson during the late 1960s. Having spent 30+ years in the same caring hands, the highly original RS 60 changed hands in 1999 and through Alex Finigan then joined the stable of Peter Le Saffre. Never crashed and still showing the blue accents added by Wuesthoff, 718-060 was treated to a sensitive restoration in the early 2000s. Among the next owners were noted collectors Chip Connor and Larry Bowman. In more recent years, it was displayed at the Le Mans before it was consigned to the 2023 Gooding Pebble Beach Auctions.
