Chassis:
Built late in 1958, this Series 2 Type 15 was fitted with a 1,500 cc Climax FPF engine and delivered new to a Mr May. He most likely never raced the car and it soon passed to Paul Nau, who stepped up from a Lotus Eleven. He raced the car in SCCA regional events at Shelton, famously finishing second to Pete Lovely in another Type 15. The car’s next custodian was experienced racer Lew Florence, who go on to race the car from 1959 through to 1961, scoring 17 race wins against strong competition. This included a winning streak of 14 races behind the wheel of the orange and white Lotus. The car was sold on in 1962 and the subsequent owners continued to race the car into the 1965 season. It was then acquired by Keith Omata, who had it registered for the road. He used the car until 1999, when it was acquired by fellow Californian Don Orosco. He only owned the car briefly as it was repatriated by an English historic racer during the same year. Now painted British Racing Green, it was returned to the racing track in 2000. Raced with considerable success, it was refinished in the orange and white colours used by Lew Florence in 2016. In 2023, it was offered for sale by William I’Anson.
