Team Lotus produced a single Type 56B for the 1971 season. It was entered in seven races that year with Emerson Fittipaldi, Dave Walker and Reine Wisell all having a go. Walker had a shot at winning the very wet Dutch Grand Prix but spun out of the race while moving up the order. In World Wide Racing colours, Fittipaldi finished eighth in the Italian Grand Prix and then finished second in a F5000 race at Hockenheim. It was the last contemporary outing for 56B/1. The car was retained by the Chapman family and was finally restored to full running in 2021 by Classic Team Lotus while retaining its highly original appearance. In 2023, it was demonstrated at the Goodwood Revival by one of Colin Chapman’s grandsons as part of the Lotus 75 celebration.
