Originally a factory demonstrator, this Model J was fitted with a Convertible Coupe body by Murphy. It was equipped with the desirable Disappearing Top. It was sold new to wealthy industrialist Gene Gordon Culver. He retained the car for four years when it was acquired by David Archibald Smart, who was the co-founder of Esquire Magazine. It changed hands several times more before it was acquired by Tony Hawkinson in 1961. His family would own the the car for 61 years and it was safely stored for a staggering 55 years between 1967 and 2022. The next custodian entrusted the beautifully preserved Model J to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company for a sympathetic refreshening. It was shown for the first time in over half a century at the ACD Festival in September of 2023 and then also at the Hershey Fall Meet. Believed to be one of the very last Duesenbergs to come out of hiding, it was consigned to the 2024 Gooding Amelia Island Auctions.
