Chassis:
Through Liège, Belgium agent Alphonse Evrard & Houp this Type 57 C was sold new to a Mr Zurstrassen. It was fitted with Stelvio Cabriolet coachwork produced for Bugatti by Gangloff. It was subsequently owned by Georges Bouriano, who also owned Type 57 57699 at the time. For reasons unknown, Bouriano switched identities when he owned both cars and from there on, this car was titled 57699. The Stelvio Cabriolet was then sold to noted Bugatti collector Jean de Dobbeleer. It moved across the Atlantic in the mid-1950s and by the end of the decade, it was acquired by American collector Alden Sherman. He would go to on own the car until his passing in 2018. During his nearly sixty years of ownership, he regularly showed the car at a variety of events. Still owned by the Sherman family, it was consigned to 2024 Gooding Amelia Island Auctions.
