Chassis:
Commissioned by Albert Cahen from Paris, this is one of just three Type 57s that was fitted with both an aluminium Atalante body and a supercharger. It was the very last Atalante body sold by Bugatti. The car was completed in December of 1938, painted royal blue with a Havana-leather interior. Cahen took delivery after paying the princely sum of 116,160 French Francs. During the War, it was most likely hidden away and it may have been shown at the 1948 Paris Auto Salon. Now all-black Type 57 subsequently changed hands several times until it was acquired by excentric enthusiast Jean Piger. He used the car on the road extensively before storing it in a heated barn on his property. Having withdrawn from public life, he eventually offered the car for sale in 2014 under the condition that the potential buyer could not inspect the car in person. Taking a leap of faith, the Type 57 C Atalante was acquired by prominent collector Henri Chambon. It was now finished in black with yellow flanks. Preserving the highly original condition, it was subsequently brought back to life by specialists Ets. Randoni. Chassis 57767 was sold after auction in 2022 and then consigned to the 2024 Gooding Amelia Island Auctions.
