March sold this 782 to Austrian racer Gottlieb ‘Gerd’ Biechtler, who used it for two races late in 1978. Ahead of the 1979 season, it was acquired by German racer Klaus Walz for a full campaign. The next custodian was another Austrian, Walter Raus, who loaned the car to Jo Gartner for an effort in the 1980 European Formula 2 Championship. Despite racing a two-year old car, Gartner impressed and would go on to have a successful career as sports car racer. Raus sold the March 782 to Herbert Rostek, who campaigned the car in select German hill-climbs. The German racer would hold on to the car long after its contemporary career was over but eventually sold it on in 2007. After a brief spell with Franz Guggemos, it was acquired by Larry Kinch in 2012. He had it restored and prepared for historic racing. Having raced the car for a couple events, it was entrusted to Girardo & Co. to find a new custodian late in 2023.
