Chassis: 1795GT
Shown at the 1960 Geneva Motor Show, this is the very first short wheelbase California Spyder. It was finished in steel grey and equipped from the factory with a Tipo 168 competition-spec engine and hard-top. Chassis 1795GT was then sold to noted racing driver Emmanuel de Graffenried. Following a short spell in the hands of another Swiss enthusiast, it was sold to the United States in 1963. Since then, it has had just two subsequent owners and has been in the same hands since 2008. Meticulously restored to its original configuration, it was consigned to headline the 2024 RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale.
