Chassis:
Believed to have been an ex-Works racer this 450S was sold to John Edgar as as a new car during the second half of 1957. It was raced by Carroll Shelby throughout 1957. He scored numerous victories in the popular American sports car races at tracks like Lime Rock, Riverside and VIR. In 1958 the car was equipped with a Pontiac V8 engine and raced with little success. Some time after the American V8 was replaced with a 6.2 litre Maserati racing boat engine. In this guise, it was part of Peter Kaus' Rosso Bianco Collection. In the late 1990s, it was sold to the German historic racer Thomas Bscher, who regularly raced this ferocious beast. More recently, it joined the collection of two German Maserati enthusiasts. Following a restoration, it was raced at the 2018 Le Mans Classic.
