Chassis:
Prepared for the 1956 Le Mans, chassis XKD 606 did not make the start due to an accident in practice. Following Jaguar's withdrawal from racing, it was one of three 1956 spec D-Types sold to Ecurie Ecosse. The following year, it was altogether more successful as in the hands of Ivor Bueb and Ron Flockhart, it scored the D-Type's third Le Mans win in a row. Later in the year, it finished a commendable fifth overall in the Monzanapolis or Race of two Worlds at Monza against single seaters. Chassis XKD 606 was raced until 1961 and made a return to Le Mans in 1960 but it failed to finish.
The car's contemporary racing career ended after a violent crash. Apparently it was split in two pieces with the front subframe and engine ending up in one car and the monocoque and rear suspension ending up in the other. This was finally rectified after both cars were acquired by Evert Louwman in 1994. The two original sections were put back together and the car was restored to its Le Mans winning livery. Today, it is proudly displayed in the Louwman Collection Museum in The Hague, The Netherlands but also makes regular public appearances.
