Chassis:
The first of two DN2s built, this chassis was raced throughout the 1973 Canadian-American Challenge Cup. Fitted with a naturally aspirated version of the Chevrolet big-block V8, it was initially fielded for Jackie Oliver. Teething mechanical issues dogged the brand-new car during the first half of the season. For the Road America round, Oliver tried the turbocharged sister car for the first time and this chassis was entered for James Hunt. Sadly, neither car made the start due to mechanical issues. Oliver then returned behind the wheel of the further improved DN2-1A and scored a podium finish during the subsequent Edmonton round. This was no fluke as the Englishman then drove the DN2 to second place at Laguna Seca. More success eluded Oliver and DN2-1A as bodywork damage early in the Riverside season finale brought an early end to the car’s contemporary racing career. Not used again, it was retained by Don Nicholls until 1991. Meticulously rebuilt for historic racing, it has since been regularly campaigned and also appeared at the Goodwood Members’ Meeting and Festival of Speed in 2024.
