Chassis:
Commissioned in April of 1935, this is one of the first Type 57 chassis fitted with the Atalante style, two-door coupe factory bodywork. It was ordered by a Mr. Perrot, who had the optional Lockheed hydraulic drum brakes fitted. Mr Perrot would own the Atalante for less than two years and in the subsequent, it was owned by a succession of noted prominent Bugatti enthusiasts like Claude Dovaz, Jean de Dobbeleer and John C. North. In the late 1960s, it joined the growing collection of Italian author Guido Artom. He would own the car for 19 years and it then passed to Peter Rae in the United Kingdom. He had the car comprehensively restored, returning it to its original configuration. It was eventually traded to Barry Burnett for a one-off Delage in 2008. From the estate of Burnett, it was acquired at auction by Dutch enthusiast Jack Braam Ruben in 2019. He had the car restored once again, by Classics Skills, returning the car to its colours. An overdrive was also added to the gearbox for high-speed cruising. Along with several other Bugattis from his collection, Braam Ruben consigned this distinct Atalante to the 2024 Gooding & Co. London Auction.
