Chassis:
Through Jack Loftus Ford in Hinsdale, Illinois, this competition specification Cobra 427 was acquired new by Richard H. Messersmith. As partial payment for the $9,650 invoice, he traded his small-block engined Cobra. Upon taking delivery in March of 1966, Messersmith attended the Carroll Shelby School of High-Performance Driving in Riverside. He would go on to race CSX3018 in local SCCA events for several seasons. With all of its original body panels unscathed and with 3,000 miles on the odometer, the fully road registered Cobra 427 was offered for sale by Messersmith during the first half of 1969. The next owner disassembled the car but did not get around to re-assembling it before his untimely passing. A subsequent owner eventually completed the work during the early 1990s. Still retaining all its original Cobra components, it was shown a the 1995 SAAC-20 in Atlanta where it won a Silver Award in the Concours Cobra class. In 2018, it was offered for sale, still with just over 3,000 original miles on the odometer. Well documented by the Shelby American World Registry, this very rare Cobra 427 Competition was offered for sale in the summer of 2024 by Californian dealer Fantasy Junction.
