Chassis:
Built ahead of the 1984 season, this works XJ-S was raced by Tom Walkinshaw Racing in the 1984 European Touring Car Championship. Multiple wins were scored before the car was shipped to Macau for the 1984 Guia Race. It was re-painted in the iconic John Player Special colours and finished second overall behind a sister car. Chassis 004’s trip around the world continued with the 1985 Bathurst 1000 the next step. Resplendent in works colours, it was entered for John Goss and Armin Hahne. They outpaced the local V8-engined machinery and scored the XJ-S’ only outright victory in the race. One of two examples built to the ultimate lightweight specification, this car fittingly spent many years in a private Australian collection. In 2023, it was shipped back to Europe and reunited at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with original drivers Goss and Hahne. It was subsequently sold through Duncan Hamilton ROFGO following a 20-year single ownership.
