Chassis:
Commissioned by Fred Parkhill from Tulsa, Oklahama, this M8E was delivered in May of 1971. It was sold as a complete car less engine. Prior to debuting the car at Donnybrooke, Parkhill had it fitted with a big-block Chevrolet V8 engine. In what would be the car’s sole Can-Am appearance, it finished 15th. Although Parkhill did not race the car in further Can-Am events, he did continue to campaign it in local SCCA races through to 1978. By that time, it had been fitted with an 8.1-litre V8 engine. It was sold after the 1978 and eventually ended up in the United Kingdom where it was used for historic racing until it was acquired by Swiss collector Arnaud Chave in the summer of 1989. Chassis 80-06 remained in his collection until 2007 when it was bought by historic racer Steve Minoprio. Prepared for racing once more, it was seldomly used until it joined the stable of a former McLaren employee. Like Bruce McLaren, he hails from New Zeeland and has since regularly raced the ex-Parkhill McLaren all over the world.
