Chassis:
Stationed in Germany as an army lieutenant, American William Linder acquired this late 365 A Carrera GS/GT Speedster in 1959. It is one of just 14 Speedster built that year in GS/GT specification with an aluminium body. Wearing its “US Forces in Germany” road registration plates, the Carrera Speedster was raced at Solitude, Avus, Monza and Zandvoort. At some point, Linder got into an accident ending its contemporary racing career. It was, however, repaired and sold to Southern California. It changed hands several times until it was sold by noted Porsche collector Gerry Sutterfield to Fred Leydorf in April of 1983. He had the car meticulously restored over many years and referred to it as ‘the eternal project.’ A correct Type 692/3 was sourced and the work was finally completed during the 2000s. Since then, it was rarely shown in public before it was consigned to the 2025 Gooding Amelia Auctions along with two other cars from the Fred Leydorf collection.
