Chassis:
With the new-for-1992 car running late, Benetton was forced to run updated B191s in the three opening Grands Prix of the 1992 season. Chassis B191-08 was one of these cars and was used at the 1992 South African Grand Prix with Michael Schumacher started in sixth. The young German had a strong race and moved up the order to finish fourth. For the subsequent Mexican and Brazilian Grands Prix was entrusted to Martin Brundle. He retired from the race in Mexico with an engine damage and then was out of the race early in Brazil with accident damage. Not raced again, Benetton retained the car and updated the livery and appearance to mimmic the later B193, most likely for promotional purposes. It was eventually sold to its first private owner around 2000 and then returned to full running order for the next owner by specialist Fred Goddard. In 2005, it joined the collection of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Shown at a variety of events during the next two decades, it was consigned to the 2025 RM Sotheby’s Miami sale along with several other cars from the collection.
