Chassis:
Following its sole outing at the 1957 Sebring 12 Hours, the Corvette SS was forced into retirement due to the racing moratorium agreed by the Automobile Manufacturers Association. Although not raced again, Project XP-64 was shown at a variety of events. Zora Arkus-Duntov ensured that the car was then spared the fate of so many experimental cars and was not crushed. He offered it twice to the Indianapolis Speedway Motor Museum. The second time Tony Hulman was interested in the car and during the 1967 Indy 500 the one-off Corvette SS was donated. During the next decades, it was shown regularly at events throughout the United States. Maintained to full running order for many years, it sadly suffered a catastrophic engine failure. A new, old-stock engine was acquired and fitted to the car to ensure it remained functional. In 2025, it was consigned to the 2025 RM Sotheby’s Miami sale with a selection of other cars from the museum collection.
