One of a pair of competition Corvettes acquired by Camoradi early in 1960, this 283/290’s first major appointment was the Grand Premio Libertad early in 1960. It was raced in Cuba by Jim Jeffords, who scored an outright victory in the first race and then a GT class win in the second. It was then raced at Sebring where it finished a delayed 26th. Camoradi then brought the Corvettes to Europe where it was raced at the Nürburgring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with little luck. Lloyd Casner himself then raced the car to tenth at Karlskoga in Sweden and was then driven on the road to Goodwood for the Tourist Trophy. Sadly, the car never arrived as it was involved in an accident before it even left Sweden. The car was deemed irreparable and was left on the spot, with the steering wheel and seat handed to a local police officer and the engine and gearbox removed, and shipped to Camoradi’s base in Modena, Italy.

The car was all but forgotten until Loren Lundberg, a Swedish Corvette enthusiast based in Glendale, Arizona started an extensive search for the ex-Camoradi Corvette in the early 1990s. He discovered that another police officer by the name of Stig Johansson had acquired a Corvette with unique characteristics that matched the 1960 competition cars. It had been sold to then owner in 1979 and Lundberg agreed to buy the car in 1995. Lundberg had also been able to track down the original engine, which had been fitted to a Maserati 250 F that had been sold to New Zeeland to compete in Libre events. With all the crucial parts reunited, an extensive restoration commenced. Lundberg would cherish and regularly show the Camoradi Corvette until his passing in 2021.

The next custodian had the car restored once more by JTM Motorsports. Once the work was completed, the Corvette was awarded with The Grand Sport Trophy at The Amelia, the Audrain Sporting Choice and American Heritage Award in 2024. The following year, this very rare ex-Sebring and ex-Le Mans Corvette was consigned to the Broad Arrow Auctions The Amelia auction.
