Chassis:
Commissioned by Dr. William Leib from Hillsborough, California, this short-chassis Bentley Speed Six was clothed with a one-off Cabriolet body by Saoutchik. Finished in cobalt blue with a white top and equipped with a solid German-silver dashboard, it was the only Speed Six bodied by the French carrossier. Dr. Leib would own the car for around two decades and it subsequently had only a handful of owners. The third custodian had the Bentley restored during the 1980s, at which time it was painted a medium brown while the original colour for the interior and top were retained. The fourth owner showed the car with great success at Pebble Beach in 2001 before it was sold to another long-term custodian. He entrusted the unique Saoutchik Cabriolet to marque specialist R.C. Moss for a second restoration. The Speed Six was returned to what is believed to be the original specification and colour. It was then shown at Pebble Beach once more and also participated in the Tour d’Elegance. In 2025, the Saoutchik Cabriolet was consigned to the Gooding Christie’s Pebble Beach Auctions.
