Chassis:
Retained by Audi Sport, this early R8 LMS was entrusted to the Belgian WRT team to compete in the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship. The works-backed machine immediately scored a victory at the season opening Nogaro round with Stephane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor driving. Two more wins were added to the tally later in the season. It also finished second overall in the 2012 Spa 24 Hours. It remained part of the Audi Sport roster and raced only a handful of times after the 2012 season and was also used for exhibition and ‘Audi Driving Experience’ duties. When the next generation R8 GT3 was introduced, chassis 0408 was finally sold by Audi. Its first private owner used it for some track days between 2016 and 2021. In more recent years, it was sold to the United Kingdom and was restored to full running order, resplendent in its successful 2012 livery.
