Chassis:
Constructed for Porsche by Fabcar, chassis 962-172 was one of the very last 962C built and used in period. It was acquired by Jochen Dauer Racing and prepared for the 1991 Daytona 24 Hours. It was fitted with sprint body work and a separate rear wing. It was entered for Michael, Mario and Jeff Andretti with backing from Havoline. They qualified sixth and were classified fifth overall and third in the GTP class. The car was returned to Jochen Dauer and used as the basis for one of his famous road cars. Registered KF 9911, the black over black machine was sold to the Sultan of Brunei and has remained in his ownership ever since. Some years later, Dauer obtained a spare 962C chassis that had originally been constructed for Vern Schuppan’s road car program. He used this to recreate the 962C as used 1991 Daytona 24 Hours and also re-used its identity. The second iteration of 962-172 was later acquired by a German racer, who has since campaigned the car under his famous Frikadelli Racing banner.
