Chassis:
The fifth B192 chassis built, this car debuted in the hands of Michael Schumacher at the 1992 Canadian Grand Prix. He qualified fifth and was then rewarded for a great race with a second-place finish. The young German started fifth again at the subsequent French Grand Prix but after an eventful race, he was classified with damaged suspension. A great run in the Hungarian Grand Prix was thwarted by a broken rear-wing while running third in B192-05 after 64 of the 77 laps. Next up was the Belgian Grand Prix, where Schumacher displayed his soon to be legendary wet weather skills by clinching his very first Grand Prix victory in his car. Chassis B192-05 was raced once more, at Estoril, where Schumacher finished a delayed seventh. It served as a spare for the opening rounds of the 1993 season before it was retired from active duty. Chassis B192-05 was retained by the Benetton team and then passed to Renault when the French manufacturer acquired the Enstone-based team in 2000. In 2015, it was sold together with two other Benetton chassis to Laurent Redon’s LRS Formula team. It was rebuilt in-house by the French specialist before it was acquired by the next custodian in 2016. A decade later, Michael Schumacher first Grand Prix winning Formula 1 car was consigned to the 2026 Broad Aurrow Auctions Global Icons: Europe Online sale.
