Chassis:
Built early in 1970, chassis 917-033 served as a spare during the 1970 and 1971 seasons with the JWA Automotive team. It was not actually pressed into service and was converted to Spyder configuration in 1972. In this specification, the car was also left un-raced, and it was eventually sold to Porsche’s Australian distributor and avid collector Alan Hamilton in 1975. The following year, 917-033 was sold to another Australian, who go on to own the car for over a decade. In 1988, it was repatriated and changed hands only twice more before the current custodian acquired the car in 2023. At this point, it was still in Spyder configuration. Keen to race the car in its original guise, he entrusted it to specialists Crubilé Sport for a comprehensive rebuild. Finished in JWA Automotive’s iconic Gulf livery, it has been raced in the Classic Endurance Racing series and Le Mans Classic since the start of 2025.
