Chassis:
One of two Lotus 16s used during the 1958 French Grand Prix, chassis 362 was entered in the Formula 2 support race. It was a troubled debut as was the subsequent outing for 362 with Graham Hill at the British Grand Prix. The car was then entrusted to Cliff Allison in the German Grand Prix where he ran as high as fourth despite running an undersized engine compared to the rivals. Allison then crashed chassis 362 at the Portuguese Grand Prix in Oporto. Not immediately repaired, the original chassis was set aside while a new car was built re-using the same number, which is today referred to as chassis 362-2. The original frame was eventually repaired and used for a car sold to privateer racer Anthony Brooke. He entered the car in five events during the 1960 season but ended up racing in only two, finishing seventh in the Lewis-Evans Trophy at Brands Hatch. In 1963, it was acquired by Don Burke and then spent the first half of 1970s in pieces awaiting restoration in the Aldershot garage of Nigel Woollett. It was eventually restored by John Harper in 1978 and has since been regularly raced in historic events by subsequent owners like Simon Philips and Bill Wilks. Following a lengthy spell in French ownership and fitted with a 2.2-litre engine, it was consigned to the 2026 Bonhams Monaco auction.
