Chassis:
One of the very last Competizione SWBs constructed in 1960, this example was raced by Jo Schlesser when new. Schlesser replaced his Interim s/n 1509GT with the featured SWB in October 1960. Its first outing was at the Montlhery 1000 km race where Schlesser finished 3rd overall. He took it to Corsica in 1961 to win the Tour de Corse. After this victory s/n 2209GT was sold to an owner in Italy and campaigned in various hillclimb events with considerable success. In 1967 it was fitted with a Tadini designed body by Drogo after it was badly damaged in a crash. In the 1980s, the owner commisioned well-known Ferrari expert DK Engineering to construct a new alloy body to replace the Tadini one. DK carefully restored it to its present shape, again livered in the Madagascan colours it sported in 1960 and 1961.
It is seen here in the basement of the Palace Hotel in Gstaad where it was offered in the 2002 Bonhams' Ferrari auction. An offer of nearly $650,000 was made on the SWB but didn't meet the reserve. It has since passed through the hands of noted historic racers Frank Sytner and Carlos Monteverde, who had the car painted yellow. It has since been re-painted white again with a French tricolore stripe.
