Chassis:
Suffering with difficult to cure handling issues, this, the second TRI61 only made its World Championship debut at the 24 Hours Le Mans. Driven by Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien it crossed the line well ahead of the converted TRI60. It was the cars only appearance in the championship as the rule changes at the end of the season left it obsolete. After a complete rebuild it was sold to Luigi Chinetti who entered it in a number of races with a victory in the 1961 Nassau Trophy as a highlight. Two subsequent owners continued to race the car in the United States until an accident ended its contemporary career in April of 1964. Rebuilt, it passed through a succession of owners including noted collector Anthony Bamford, until it was acquired by the current custodian in 1983. At the time, chassis 0794TR had been completely restored by the mid 2000s, it was once again the subject of a restoration. It has since been shown and demonstrated on both sides of the Atlantic.
