Chassis:
Some of Jean Bugatti's standard Type 57 designs were available on the shorter and lower 'S' chassis, including the Atalante two-door coupe of which the featured s/n 57501 is an excellent example. It was completed in 1937 and remained in France. The first owner sold the car to Fritz Schlumpf, who added it to his impressive Bugatti collection. Unlike almost all others, this Bugatti managed to escape the Schlumpfs' grasp and found a new owner in 1956. The Type 57 S changed hands various times, until it was sold to its current owner during the 2001 Bonham's Quail auction. Restored, but still with its original interior, it was shown during the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. It was awarded the French Cup and secured second in class.
