Chassis:
Sold new to a customer in Paris, chassis 50123 was fitted by the works roadster body, which was designed by Jean Bugatti. Through another French owner, the short-chassis Type 50 found its way to Jack Lemon Burton in the United Kingdom. In 1942, the engine was removed from the car and sold the United States. Lemon Burton managed to source a replacement Type 50 engine from France shortly after the War. During the 1950s the Bugatti was sold to the United States. After a long term ownership, it was offered in the 1997 Christie's Pebble Beach auction where it sold for $354,500. Over a decade later, chassis 50123 returned to the Monterey Peninsula for the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, where it is pictured here.
