Chassis:
Featured is a first series SuperAmericas, fitted with a special Pinin Farina designed body. Dubbed the Superfast, it was unveiled at the 1956 Paris Auto Show. Visually it combined the latest Ferrari front-end with a tail sporting large fins. That combined with the white over green paintscheme was a clear indication that this machine was intended to enter the American market. Technically it differed from the 'standard' SuperAmericas with its shorter wheelbase and twin-plug racing engine.
After the Paris show, the unique 410 Superfast was indeed sold to the United States. The front end with covered headlights was used on many 'production' Ferraris, but the more controversial finned tail remained unique. Two more Superfast prototypes were built before the name was used on the 500 Superfast launched in the 1960s. The first Superfast has remained in the United States and passed through the hands of legendary collector Greg Garrison before ending up the hands of the current owner. It's pictured above at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance where 75 years of Pininfarina was celebrated.
